After losing a five-game heartbreaker to fifth-seeded Western Nebraska Community College in the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Championships semifinals on Friday night, top-seeded Salt Lake Community College rebounded strong to defeat third-seeded Frank Phillips College 30-27, 24-30, 30-26, 30-25 on Saturday evening to take third-place in the event.

Western Nebraska Punches Ticket to NJCAA Final

Western Nebraska Community College took down the top-ranked team in the country and punched its ticket to the NJCAA Volleyball Championship final Friday at the Mid-America Center. The Cougars capitalized on an impressive defensive performance to post a 3-2 victory over Salt Lake Community College. Western Nebraska moves on to face undefeated Miami Dade in the finals.
Miami Dade Will Play for NJCAA Championship on Saturday

With the win, the Ravens advance to the fifth place match at the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Championships, which will be played on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Hillsborough Rallies to Oust Temple in Consolation

Hillsborough (Fla.) Community College rallied from a 2-1 deficit to oust Temple (Texas) College 32-30, 31-33, 21-30, 30-28 and 15-8 in a thrilling consolation match Friday at the Mid America Center. Hillsborough (33-7), which gave No. 5 seed Western Nebraska all it could handle in the first round, advanced to second round consolation play for the second straight season.

The Cougars (52-2), making their ninth straight trip to the national tournament, used a balanced attack in their dominating performance against Arkansas-Fort Smith (39-5).

When all was said and done, second-seeded Miami Dade rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat 10th-seeded San Jacinto 3-2.

The 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association Volleyball Championship gets under way Thursday with opening ceremonies at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs. The evening begins with a Parade of Teams ceremony at 6:00 p.m. featuring the 16 national tournament qualifiers.
